Jack Reacher

STAYED AWAKE

As I was watching the beginning of the movie, I thought to myself, "Tom Cruise, Leo, and possibly Denzel (not his new stuff) really can't make a bad movie."  So as the movie kept going, I kept hoping the movie wasn't bad.  I was expecting more of an action movie vs a crime drama and so that's why I didn't like it as much.  Don't get me wrong; it was a solid movie.  I just didn't like it as much as his popcorn stuff.  I'll have to reorder the actors to Leo > Tom > Denzel (yes, Denzel has made a lot of stinkers of late.)  This is a good home movie (an upgrade to an airplane movie.)

Star Trek Into Darkness

FELL ASLEEP

First off, let me say that I was EXTREMELY TIRED going into this movie.  I was running on 4 hours of sleep for the past week and so no movie had a chance to keep me awake.  With that said, I was surprised how far I got before I fell asleep (somewhere in the 1:30 range).   I actually enjoyed the movie and will have to catch the BluRay when it comes out so I can find out what happens.  And yes, I did watch this in IMAX 3D.

The Internship

ACTUALLY STAYED AWAKE

Went to a free screening of the "Google" movie.  I probably laughed a handful of times throughout the entire movie.  It was too predictable and after a while, Vince Vaughn gets to be very annoying.  And while I'm a fan of Google, it was Google-overkill.  I even wondered if they produced the movie too.  Definitely a plane movie.

Iron Man 3

ZONED OUT IN LAST 15 MINUTES

First off, I do not enjoy Marvel movies.  They are all action with little to no subplot and 1-liners.  I much prefer the "Dark Knight" series over "Avengers" and whatnot.  Or maybe I'm just old now and want a little more substance to my movies. I did watch this in IMAX 3D and after watching "Pain and Gain" last week in the "small" theater, it was shocking to go back to IMAX.  I think it'll be hard for me to watch a movie in a "small" theater again just because you could literally have 90% of that setup at home.  IMAX 3D however would be much tougher to replicate at home.  So anyway, I did stay awake during the movie, and I think that's because I've been using these free coupons for drinks and so the caffeine in the Coke Zero, the coldness in the theater, and the not-the-most-comfortable-seats are keeping me awake.  I did zone out in the last 15-30 minutes thinking the movie was a bit too long for my tastes and I hope the movie ends really soon.    And of course the people with me loved the movie; I much preferred "Oblivion" over this.

Pain and Gain

ACTUALLY STAYED AWAKE

Oh man, this movie was baaaaad.  I thought it would be an action packed Michael Bay movie, but it wasn't that action packed, wasn't funny, and dragged on for way too long.  There were about 30 people in the theater and at the 1 hour mark, 4 people smartly walked out.  I considered walking out and was pondering if I could get a refund because the movie was so bad.  At around the 1:30 mark, another handful of people walked out.  That's when the wife started beginning to get restless, and I started to look at my watch every 5 minutes.  I think I was more angry at the fact that I didn't fall asleep through this awful movie.  I kept thinking about the time I walked out on "The Brothers Grimm," and how I should have walked out at the 1 hour mark.  So just avoid this movie like the plague!  Btw, Marky Mark had to have used steroids to prep for this movie because he was ripped!

Safe

FELL ASLEEP

Most of you don't know what this movie is, and 3 months from now, I won't either.  Anyway, as I was going through my movie library last night, the box cover caught my eye - Jason Stratham!  And seeing as how I really enjoyed the "Transporter" series, I figure I can't go wrong.  Fifteen minutes in, I was thinking how much I liked Jason Stratham over other similar looking action hero guys (whose names elude me now.)  Plus it also starred a genius 12 year old Chinese girl.  Movie reminded me of "Rush Hour 2" minus the laughs and "The Professional" minus the grittiness.  Anyhow, that's when things got bad really quick.  I realized the movie wasn't really that good especially since the bad guys weren't top name bad guys.  C'mon, that's the guy from "Gossip Girl!"  And that's the last I remembered before I fell asleep.  Feel free to ignore this movie.

Oblivion

ACTUALLY STAYED AWAKE

I watched this movie on IMAX at an 8PM showing on a Friday night.  Ten minutes into the movie and I realized that watching a movie like this on IMAX is really the only way to watch an action movie.  Sure, I could have watched this movie at home 3 months from now, but it just wouldn't be the same.  With that said, Tom Cruise doesn't look like he's aged a day, and he's made so many of these movies that it's just natural he'd star in it.  I also love disaster movies, so this was really up my alley.  I did however start to fall asleep at the very end, but was able to mandingo up.  I'm going to credit the Coke Zero for keeping me awake else I most likely would have zzzzz.  With that said, if you like disaster Tom Cruise movies (*cough* "War of the Worlds"), then you should watch this movie.
