Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Unlike "Shrek 3," this 3rd installedment of "Ice Age" was hilarious! I found myself laughing and going "Awww what a cutie" throughout the entire movie. My only gripe with the movie was that the voice of the 2 married mammoths were Ray Romano and Queen Latifah. No matter how hard I tried to picture them married, I just couldn't do it, much less conceiving and expecting a baby together. Other than that, wonderful movie, no matter if you're a child or an adult.

Sunshine Cleaning

Now this was a quirky movie. Amy Adams and Emily Blunt are 2 sisters who become a crime scene cleanup service. The move is so off the wall, unique, and interesting that I couldn't help but stay awake. I don't know what it is about watching movies about poor people; I think it's partly because I empthasize with them and partly because I'm just glad I don't have to go through their struggles, but I enjoy watching them. Whereas "Little Miss Sunshine" was a funny feel-good movie, this "sunshine" movie was an off-the-wall funny feel-good movie. Highly recommend you watch it!

Duplicity

Wow. What a confusing movie. I was thoroughly confused throughout the entire movie. Even now, as I write this, I'm still confused. However, because it was so confusing, I stayed awake throughout the entire movie. Then again, it has been ages since I last watched Julie Roberts in a starring role. I kept thinking to myself, "Wow, she still looks just as good now as when she was in 'Pretty Woman.'" I don't know if I liked the movie, but at least, I didn't totally regret watching it. It's one of those movies that you forget watching until one day, someone brings it up during conversation, and you go, "Ahhhh I watched that movie. I don't remember what happened, but I remember watching it."

Oh Matthew Mac....you just need to stop the madness. This movie was NOT GOOD. I don't know what happened after the 40 minute mark (I kept waking up, going "Huh? what the hell's going on?", and then falling back asleep), but what I did see, I didn't like. The movie was too slow to develop and the a-hole schtick doesn't work for you. Plus, I'm not a fan of Michael Douglas's corpse or ghosts in general. Plus, I love how in movies you can't touch a ghost, but a ghost can push you back while another ghost is bent behind you, thus making you fall on your ass. Yeaaahhhh, at least keep things consistent!

I didn't even know Jennifer Aniston made this movie, okay. That's already a bad sign. I don't remember any preview for it; I don't remember any TV spots for the movie or the DVD. I just randomly ran into it. Anyhow, the movie is billed as a "quirky romantic comedy." Let me tell you. It wasn't "quirky." It was ABSURD. Absurd as in Matthew McConaughey seeing ghosts of ex girlfriends was more believable. I don't know how I managed to stay awake in this movie. I think I was so angry about how unbelievable it was that I just couldn't wait to see how over the top they would go. I mean, I was waiting to see cows fly out of Jennifer's ass. That wouldn't have surprised me at all. So just pass on this one.

The Proposal

This romantic comedy was HILARIOUS! Perfect casting from Ryan to Sandra to the mom, dad, and grandma. I can't remember a funnier romantic comedy than this one. Highly, highly recommended. Some notes:
  • The dog in the movie is one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen
  • The house...WOW! What a house!

My only quip were the names of the girls. Seriously? Gertrude and Margaret? Margaret definitely should have been a "Kate" and Gertrude should have been a "Sarah." My only other big complaint will be in the spoiler

***** SPOILER ALERT *****

When Sandra fell in the water, shouldn't she have gone under? If she couldn't swim, how does she stay afloat? And then to be able to swim to the buoy that was a good 10 feet away from her? C'mon now. That was my only gripe

***** SPOILER ALERT *****

Will Ferrell has been on my poo-poo list for a while for making so many un-funny movies of late. Therefore, I came into this movie expecting I'd turn it off after 30 minutes like I did with "Journey to the Center of the Earth." But you know what, this movie was actually funny. Will certainly redeemed himself with this movie. Of course not many people will agree with me, but I enjoyed it. So if you like "Dumb & Dumber," then you'll like this one as well. Welcome back to the land of the funny Will.

The only thing that's funnier than Seth Rogan would be seeing him get nutted in the eye. Seriously, this movie was as funny as watching a kitten get beatten to death. I had better things to do with my time so I just turned it off after 35 minutes.

You know, I've always been a fan of Jack Black movies. I enjoyed "Nacho Libre" and his various cameos in other films. However, I did skip out the "Tenacious D" series. I also am a fan of Michael Cera from "Superbad." I'd be lying if I said I wasn't expecting a half decent movie even though it was an Apatow Productions movie. And you know what, I enjoyed the movie. My mind didn't wander and wish I was doing something else. It made me chuckle at times. It was an all around enjoyable movie.

You knew there was no way in hell I could stay awake for nearly 3 hours. This movie was very "cerebral" as in it was very plot driven besides all CGI like the Marvel movies. With that said, you do have to watch this movie a 2nd time because you'll understand it more the second time around. Of course I'm not going to waste another 3 hours, but I did enjoy the 3 hours I spent watching it. Heck, after my nap, I even enjoyed it more. If you enjoyed "Sin City," then you should enjoy this one as well. Not sure if I'd buy because I'd never re-watch, but it should definitely be in your Netflix queue.
