This movie was recommended to me by Gene, and Joe had some coworkers recommend it to him as well. I am a big fan of kung fu movies, but this one was just...not good. I loved the first 30 minutes of it before the big climax. And then after that, things started to go down hill. It went from "Hero" to "Bloodsport." Not a fan at all. Movie was enjoyable, but I wouldn't really recommend it. It's IMDB rating is way too high too.

First of all, some disclaimers: 1) I've never read "Da Vinci Code" and 2) I fell alseep through the "Da Vinci Code" movie and can't remember anything that happened after the first 15 minutes. With that said, I think you can already guess that I did NOT enjoy this movie. I usually like these types of thrillers, and I guess you really didn't need to have watched the first movie to understand this one. My biggest grip about this movie was how UNBELIEVABLE everything was. I am fine with Gallileo transcribing hidden English in an ancient book; that I will give you. However, I can't believe that Tom Hanks can 1) get access to the book, 2) find the book, 3) find the hidden text, 4) drive throughout Rome ALL WITHIN ONE HOUR. FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES!!! Sorry, I don't buy it. The only reason why I didn't fall asleep was because I was so busy rolling my eyes at how unbelievable the whole moviewas.

The Reader
Point I Fell Asleep: ACTUALLY STAYED AWAKE
Location: Home
Time I Started Movie: Primetime

So this movie was INTERESTING to say the very least. I wasn't sure what I was expecting coming into the movie, but after everything was said and done, I sorta enjoyed the movie... I was quite impressed with the cinematography of the movie; I know you notice it in movies like "Crouching Tiger...," but this may be the first "urban" movie that had really great camera angles. I'm not sure what camcorder the director chose to shoot the movie, but it certainly looks better than most movies. So enough beating around the bush, read the spoiler alerts to get to the good stuff.
***** SPOILER ALERT *****
This movie had me tripping out. First it went from a half porno romantic movie to a movie about the war to a "Notebook" esque ending. Just plain nuts! Here are my ramblings:
1. Now please tell me why he didn't go see her when she was on trial? He was at the jail and ready to go in, but turned around. Was he still angry at her for leaving him? Was he STILL that heartbroken after 10 years to not go see her? Or maybe it was because he hated what she had done to the Jews? I don't know. If that was me, I would have at least gone to talk to her. To at least find out why she left all of a sudden. At the very least, he could have at least told his professor.... but I guess he didn't want to reveal her secret.
2. Did it seriously take her 3 years to learn to read? C'mon, you're in prison and have nothing else better to do. That should have taken her 3 months!
3. I'm not quite sure who the mother of his daughter is. Not sure if that was a significant plot twist that I missed. Either way, I'm not sure why he felt compelled to tell her the story at the very end there.
4. Did he seriously have to be so callous to her when he finally visited her in prison? He obviously still loved and cared for her since he was recording all those tapes for her. I think he was just trying to be a "hard-ass," and you see what happened? She done and went and killed herself. Life lesson - you don't get "do-overs" in life, so you had better make sure you know what you're doing before you do it. That guilt would have messed me up for YEARS!
5. With that said, I think she should have at least told him why she left all of a sudden. Now he'll never know...

Tyson

First of all, let me say that I LOVED watching Mike Tyson fight while growing up. I wasn't able to watch that many fights since we were poor and barely had cable, let alone Pay Per View, but the fights that I did get to see, I was mesmerized. I never got to watch Ali fight, but in "my generation," I think Tyson was the best heavyweight fighter. His ferocity in the ring went unmatched, and his early round knockouts were legendary. This movie was a documentary about his life, narrated by the man himself. You get a glimpse into his mind, especially when he says, "Insanity was my sanity." You get to understand why he went "crazy," and why he bit off Evander's ear. After watching the movie, I'm glad he bit it off. Evander was a little punk bitch by head butting him all the time. Anyway, the movie was good, and you should definitely watch it if you're a Tyson fan.

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans
Point I Fell Asleep: ACTUALLY STAYED AWAKE
Location: Home
Time I Started Movie: Midnight
IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0834001/
I was impressed with myself for not falling asleep through this movie, although I have to be honest, if this movie had gone 15 minutes longer (90 minute movie), I woulda been knocked out because I was fading in and out at the end there. So I loved the "Underworld" series; I don't know if I love it more than the "Resident Evil" series, but they're both my favorites. I was HIGHLY disappointed that my girl Kate Beckinsale wasn't in this movie, but then again, this was supposed to be a prequel, so it wouldn't have made sense for her to be in it. I wasn't complaining when I realized Rhona Mitra was in the movie though. She looked as hot as she did when she had a part on "Boston Legal." All in all, it was a good movie. Definitely worth renting, maybe buying if you already have the first 2 in your collection. I do hope that the series ends here though; I can already tell that a fourth installment will just degrade the quality of the entire series.
