The Wrestler

WOW! What a GREAT movie! I do have to throw out the disclaimer that I loved watching wrestling growing up and Randy "The Macho Man" Savage was one of my favorites. I'm not sure if the movie was based on his life or not, butMickey Rourke's character definitely reminded me of him. I loved how the movie was shot mostly from the main character's point of view, with the camera over his shoulder. I don't know if Mickey used 'roids to bulk up for this role, but he certainly looked like he had been wrestling for 30 years. I think Mickey should have gotten the Oscar for this role. I think the Academy just felt bad for not giving Sean Penn one yet, so gave it to him for "Milk," when in fact, Mickey gave a much better performance. And Marissa Tomei...wow! I had heard she still had a banging body in this movie, and sure enough, she did not disappoint. There's not that many movies that make you emotionaly connect with the main character, but this one surely did. I felt so bad for him and wanted him to succeed, and I felt the hurt when things didn't go his way. GREAT GREAT MOVIE! Highly recommend it!

Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee

I watched this movie based on Peter's recommendation. Remind me to pimp slap him over the face tomorrow. The movie is a comedic documentary on trying to find an actor to play the role of Bruce Lee in his unfinished movie. The movie had its funny moments, but they were few and far between. I had high hopes too...

This was the first movie where I fell asleep 30 minutes into it, woke up at around the one hour mark going, "What happened to Milk's gay partner? Hey, that's not him! That's someone else!" and then kept dozing off and on for the next 15 minutes and then said, "Oh to hell with this movie" and turned it off. I didn't think rewinding and rewatching the movie was worth my time. Plus, I didn't want to watch this movie in the first place.

First off, I'm not a dog person. Secondly, I thought the movie was going to be about a break-up. Well, I'm not going to ruin the movie for you, but let's just say that if my girlfriend or wife ever wanted to get a dog, I'd make her watch this movie first. If you're a dog person though, you may enjoy the movie more than me. Lastly, I never knew you could own a mansion on a newspaper reporter's salary...

I feel like I'm the last person on Earth who has seen this movie. I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the hype, and I must admit, my mind was on something else throughout the entire movie, but even with half to 3/4 of my attention, it was still a really good and enjoyable movie. I mean, nothing much more to say. Go watch it!

So I thought this movie was going to be a disaster movie like "Armageddon," and so I was getting giddy in the first 5 minutes. By the 15 minute mark, you find out it's an extraterrestrial movie like "War of the Worlds," and that's when I rolled my eyes and started to lose interest. Then by the 30 minute mark, you find out the alien is played by Keanu Reeves. SERIOUSLY?!?! That's just a recipe for disaster? When was the last good Keanu movie? "Speed?" Even then, it was more about the movie rather than the actor. I did enjoy "Point Blank" and "Bill and Ted" back in the day though. I don't know; after "Speed," it all seemed to go downhill for Keanu. Back to the movie...the biggest issue I have about these alien movies is that you can point out so many holes in the movie that you just start disbelieving it. I know aliens are fiction, but you can't have the characters not shit in their pants when they see it. Or RUN FROM IT. Who would walk towards an alien? C'mon... this movie was so bad I just couldn't wait for it to end. Sorry Jennifer Connelly, even you couldn't carry this stink bomb!

First off, no movie stood a chance of me staying awake today because I was pretty damn tired. Secondly, this was not the best movie for me to stay awake through anyway. I had no idea what the plot was about. I know I liked Amy Adams and that Meryl Streep should have won the Oscar. However, five minutes into the movie, I could tell this was going to be a snoozefest, and sure enough, it was. About 25 minutes in, I was in and out of consciousness not knowing what the hell was going on. At one point, Amy's character got a letter on a park bench, and the next minute, the movie was over. I don't think I would have enjoyed the movie if I stayed awake anyway. Let me know otherwise.

Yes Man

I watched this movie over the weekend on a lazy afternoon, not expecting too much out of this movie. After all, when was the last FUNNY Jim Carrey movie? Ace Ventura? I felt this movie should have been made back in the 1990's at the height of his career. The movie was the typical Jim Carrey movie; reminded me very much of "Liar, Liar." The Katy Perry girl really stole the movie though; all of her scenes were funny. Only once the credits started rolling did I realize she wasn't Katy Perry, but actually Zooey Deschanel. Would I recommend this movie? If you're a Jim Carrey fan or if you like funny romantic comedies, you should at least rent the movie.
